The first axe that sticks usually gets the loudest cheer. The interesting question comes a few turns later, when someone asks, “Are we keeping score?” Here are five ways to say yes, whether your crew wants a serious match or just wants to see if it can land three throws in a row.
At The Axe Hole House in Davie, your group gets a private lane and staff introduce the equipment. These are ideas for keeping score during regular, staff-approved turns. Pick one after the introduction and let everyone take a practice turn before the numbers count.
1. First to five
Give each player one point for a stick. Play in rounds, with everybody taking the same number of turns. If Maya reaches five first, the people after her still get their throw. This is a good opener because a beginner who lands an axe near the edge gets the same payoff as the friend who hits the middle.
2. Call your comeback
Each person gets two short sets of equal length. Record how many throws stick in the first set, then try to beat your own number in the second. A player who goes from zero to two can win most improved, even if somebody else lands every throw. Agree on how to handle ties before you begin.
3. Build a team streak
Keep one running tally for the whole group. Each stick adds one, and a miss starts the count over. Write down the longest streak and see if everyone can beat it together. This one changes the sound of the lane. Suddenly the person who was rooting against you is your biggest fan.
4. Split the scoreboard
Pair up and add both teammates’ sticks. For a group of four, swap partners after the first match. The second pairing gives the quieter guests somebody new to cheer for and makes a runaway first game worth starting over.
5. Give the final round its own trophy
Before the last equal-turn round, wipe the score. Whoever gets closest to the center earns a separate title, “Last Word.” The original match winner keeps the win, and the friend who spent half the session figuring things out gets one more shot at glory.
For two to four friends near Fort Lauderdale, start with the private group booking options. First visit together? Send everyone the venue FAQs before you meet.
