It’s surprisingly easy to draw a blank when somebody hands you a plate and says you get to break it. At The Axe Hole House in Davie, Plate Therapy is a guided plate-breaking activity that comes with selected packages. You can put a joke, a doodle, or a single word on your plate. Here are seven starting points for the moment the marker lands in your hand.
1. The meeting that should’ve been an email
Draw a little calendar square and write “quick sync” inside it. Coworkers will recognize the feeling without anybody having to name a boss. If you’re with your office crew, let everyone keep their own punchline to themselves until they feel like sharing.
2. Your most ridiculous household debate
For a date, try “Where do you want to eat?” or sketch the dishwasher that apparently has only one correct loading pattern. Choose something you both already laugh about. The best plate joke is the one that still works on the drive home.
3. A South Florida inconvenience
Sketch the parking spot someone took while you were signaling. A rain cloud over a freshly washed car works, too. This prompt is handy for a mixed group because nobody needs the backstory to get the joke.
4. A word you’re tired of hearing
“Pivot.” “Bandwidth.” “Adulting.” Write yours big enough to read from across the room. If your group wants a guessing game, have people guess who picked which word before the guided breaking starts.
5. The score from a friendly defeat
If your package includes axe throwing, save a score that deserves a dramatic retirement. Write “Lost by ONE” across the plate, add the date, and let the winner take a picture. Now the runner-up gets the last word.
6. A drawing only your friends understand
Sketch the lopsided birthday cake, the vacation rental key that vanished, or the group chat’s unofficial mascot. Artistic talent adds very little here. A terrible drawing sometimes tells the story better.
7. One thing you’ve finished
A last exam, a long commute, an apartment move. Write “That’s a wrap” with the date underneath. If you want to remember the milestone, take a photo while the plate is still in one piece, then follow your host’s directions for the break.
For a two-person outing, the Manager’s Date Night booking options include a package with two plates, one for each of you. Bringing friends? Compare the group experiences and check the plate count on the package you choose.
